The hardest part of the job is creating a working USB drive. One directly where your computer boots and installs XP. This becomes a big annoyance for me. I tried it all 10 times before I finally decided it worked. I even tried to install Linux Ubuntu… But at the end of Xp it worked.
Here’s how I managed to reinstall XP on this computer. I don’t guarantee this will work, but you if the methods like it, it’s mostly due to unetbootin crashing or missing your hal.dll. This error may help.
2) Install and run WinToFlash, follow the basic instructions until you reach the door below where you have the option to choose the path to the USB stick and then to the CD drive which basically contains the XP installation CD .
3) If your settings are correct, you will be very good atStop transferring files. Each of these programs takes a few minutes and the program makes your USB drive bootable and copies the files from the CD to an expensive USB drive.
4) If WinToFlash says it’s copying, your flash drive is working! Take it and plug it into one of your eee pc’s USB ports.Then immediately start logging out of the device and media channels several times until the blue video window below appears. Select the string that is decompressed with “USB”
5) A black i should then appear at the bottom. Select “Configure TXT Mode…” (I know it sounds strange, but the group’s PC was set to the regular version when the GUI mode interfered…)
6) The XP installer will leave your site waiting for files to load directly into memory, so you should buy the blue screen below. You will select the first partition and format it to NTFS. If you are reinstalling the system after your personal eee computer crashed, there should be additional partitions. Don’t choose the biggest one. Be sure to choose one size first, which ist about 3 GB. I tried others, eeepc, it never booted on it…
