Oblivion.ini (Oblivion Standard)
Hi, I’m having a crash every time I try to make changes to Oblivion.ini and also save it, it just shows a :brokencomputer: failure message and I can’t save the changes. I’m having trouble changing fNeardistance to 3.0 instead of 10.0. I’m just wondering if I need to remove or get something to make this work, but I can’t figure it out. Thanks!

I’ll leave it here anyway.
Make sure you’re editing the correct INI file. It is located (for Win7) in the usernameMy DocumentsMy GamesOblivion folder. Often in e This directory should not have any UAC issues preventing it from being saved. If so, make sure you have administrator rights.
DO NOT modify the oblivion_default.ini file in the normal Oblivion installation folder.
Guys, I’m going crazy here. Oblivion and its current launcher flatly refuse to save to an .ini file in My DocumentsMy GamesOblivion. There has never been an Oblivion.ini file, and no matter how many there are, the game will definitely NOT make it. Copying the default INI from a specific Steamapps shared folder and renaming Oblivion to it.ini DOES NOT WORK either. When restarting, the settings are not read in it, and the launcher still writes that there is no INI archive. Changing the game settings does NOT manually change the INI file, and restarting the game again gives me the default options. The only thing that works is manually converting the default INI file to the steamapps public folder using notepad, but basically it’s a huge pain and I don’t know what I’m doing. Even worse, THE GAME CANNOT CREATE SAVE FILES!!! I’ve reinstalled multiple times on multiple drives, checked file integrity, went into compatibility/admin settings,uninstalled Microsoft OneDrive (which wasn’t initially enabled), uninstalled all My GamesOblivion, and spent hours searching Google for a solution. I hope this will be my favorite Elder Scrolls game!
EDIT: Help I’ve also tried changing the permissions on the My GamesOblivion folder to make sure nothing is set to read-only, but I’ve heard that when the game starts, the permissions on the General folder are reset and some files are only revisited? ? I’ve also heard that every time you reinstall Steam, unused saves from the My GamesOblivionSaves folder are loaded from around 2012?! I disabled Staem’s cloud sync for this, so I’m not sure why it’s still loading or if it affects the current issue.
